A destination most travellers knew as a connection, sold to the people who sell travel.

Transit is not a destination

Qatar Airways was established in the German-speaking market as a way to get somewhere else. The stopover was known, the city was not. The task: make Doha a place the trade actively sells, not a hub passengers sit in for two hours.

The channel was the harder version of the problem. Not consumer advertising. The audience was roughly 1,200 partner agencies across DACH and Benelux, the people who decide which destination gets recommended when a customer has not decided yet. Destination marketing through the trade means convincing the person behind the counter, because no banner reaches the moment of recommendation.

What ran

Three years of co-marketing between Qatar Airways and airtuerk, aimed at that network, with Doha framed as a destination in its own right rather than a stopover extended by a night.

The work sits in the middle of a partnership like this. The airline brings the destination and the brand standards, the consolidator brings the network and the trust the trade has in it. A campaign both sides can sign, at a pace both sides can hold.

Result

The plainest evidence is the duration. Co-marketing budgets get renewed when the partner sees a return. This one ran three years.
